April 30, 2010 - Community leaders gathered at the base of one of the newly constructed bridges on the Swamp Rabbit Trail to announce the completion of the 13-mile link between the City of Greenville and the City of Travelers Rest. Planning and construction of the greenway path has been in the works since 1999 when Greenville County purchased the abandoned rail corridor once operated by the Greenville and Northern Railroad. In the weeks leading up to the opening, crews made final touches on over 5 miles of new paved trail and 5 new bridges.
