ABOUT SPINX RUN FEST

KIDS’ MARATHON

The KM helps get elementary and middle school students involved in a regular running program. Six weeks prior to the KM, students run a total of 25.2 miles in PE class or on their own. After running the 1 mile KM course, these students have a total of 26.2 miles to their credit and earn a finishers medal and official certificate. Parents can run with their children without registering themselves, but they won’t get the cool bling like the kids do. Students registered in the KM are automatically entered in Fit’s School Challenge (see below).

HELP WANTED

It takes hundreds of volunteers to make Spinx Run Fest happen. We need volunteers before the event (set up, race packets, Expo), during the event (aid stations, course monitors, handing out medals), and to clean up after the event so the City will let us come back again. In spite of the work involved, it doesn’t feel like work since you’re having fun. We’d love for you to join our Volunteer Team. Click below to learn more. Once you decide, send us an e-mail & we’ll sign you up.

LOCAL TRAINING PROGRAMS

GTC Steps. The GTC Steps program is a phased adult beginners running program with the initial goal of preparing you to run your first 5K. After completing a 5K, you are encouraged to train for and enter additional GTC races including Spinx Run Fest.

iRun. This highly successful running program was started about 2 years ago. It starts with a ten week “Walk to Run” program, then progresses to a 5K and longer distances.

FIRST. Not just a program, this is an Institute! FIRST has great training programs (PDF) on their website. The staff offer free lectures on a variety of running/training topics. Their bestselling book, Run Less Run Faster is a terrific training guide for Spinx Run Fest.

TRAINING PROGRAMS

Spinx Run Fest has arranged for a special pre-race pasta dinner to be served at the Hyatt Regency from 6PM-9PM on Friday Oct. 28. Click on this link to learn more: PASTA-DINNER

FIT’S COOL CHALLENGE

The Fit’s Cool Challenge by Earth Fare is open to all elementary and middle schools in the area. Any student, family member, or faculty member entered in the Kids’ Marathon, 5K, Half, or Marathon or working as a volunteer is “counted” as a participant from their school. We then award a total of $1000 dollars to the elementary schools (1st place $500, 2nd place $300, 3rd place $200) and $1000 to the middle schools (same award breakdown) based on a formula that takes into account the school’s total participation and the school’s official size/enrollment.
